Building on the idea of bringing food advocacy and awareness into public schools - why not create a food immersion week that brings activities such as this & awareness, accessibility, and education so that the community can't help but be made aware.

I haven't read thru all the comments yet, but I really like this idea, especially for the opportunity it could have to address laws that discourage at-home/not pro bakers and cooks from making a living thru what they make.

See this article on the issue in Texas:
http://www.houstonpress.com/2011-02-17/restaurants/come-and-bake-it/

You have to have a fully certified kitchen, separate from a living space to be able to legally sell and distribute food...not realistic at all for home-cooks. This idea could be a great bridge for this issue and existing laws....

At first glance I passed over this idea because the image looks like a lot of graphic design posters that represent what states are for...BUT - on a closer look I love the idea of bringing a map of resources to a local scale. Alot of times I am surprised by what's 'Made in Chicago' . I would suggest that a static / tangible / physical version would need to be developed alongside the digital/social version. I am sure someday the majority of populations will be digital & social media literate, but there are so so so many people that this would be right over their heads. And a tangible / physical version might be a way to get a young audience and have them grow into the digital version.

great idea - I'm glad I came back for a second look at the graphic! And I so so so wish Texas wasn't 'meat' booohoo.... :) we do alot of creative things with Pecans...

I like this idea alot - the idea of bringing transparency to where consumers need it and want it.- instead of having to go online and research everything or stare at my smartphone.

And maybe this isn't something food producers opt-in to but their food's 'stats' are posted and available to consumers regardless. That way we know that boxed mix on the grocery shelf in Omaha has bleached wheat powder from mexico and cocoa flavoring from south america, and on and on and on....

would be an incentive to producers and supplier to have a nicer message of package contents...

great job!
