This is a great idea. We live in Arizona and my children’s elementary school has a gardening program. Each class has a raised bed. The program is sponsored by the parents' group. The kids work the earth, plant from seed, tend the bed, and even bring things in from home for the compost piles. When everything is ready, they harvest their crops and cook/prepare what they have grown. Every child tries what they grew. My kids have eaten all kinds of things they would never try before. Each garden has a theme. One year they grew a salsa garden, another year a three sisters’ garden ( a traditional native American garden of corn, bean and squash), and many others. Good luck with your idea!
