Theodore commented on Gay's Wife: The Marriage Is a Nightmare For These Women

When you say gays chose to marry, I expect it is the same societal pressures that force those choices that keep the women in the marriage. It may be less about choice than about expectations from parents and family that pressures them into marriage, when they would prefer to choose to stay single or live more openly. Additionally, I wonder what the socio-economic conditions are of these statistics and if the younger and more affluent segments are affected the same way. This may yield solutions (financial independence, socio-economic gains, etc.) as a way to empower women to make different choices. Ultimately, I think the problem is societal and challenging the norms and expectations is the root cause, not blaming gay men. I also wonder what the case is for gay women? Do they have the same issues?
