Piggy backing off of Ian Hall's advice for "help needed", one thing that we did in working with youth for the teen museum to get them to contribute their ideas (check out our Virtual Museum project when you have a minute via my profile): 1. you have to start with a basic level of trust that you know what you are talking about in order to get youth to participate. The problem that they face whether they know it or not is that they are poached for their ideas all of the time, so helping them to see the value-add in short-and long-term personally, professionally, creatively, etc. has to be established. 2. you have to make them the experts right from the start. We start out with the groups that we work with by saying "this cannot exist without you or your input, we (being the adults) are simply the facilitators..."

We actually believe this to be true, so its comes easy to roll off the tongue and we put this into practice throughout the next series of activities that we do, but those 2 fundamentals can really help start things off.

I love this idea. It reminds of times when I would be bored in class and I would draw a line or semi-circle on a piece of paper and would pass it along to my classmate to add-on. We would pass it back and forth until the vision was completed, but boy o boy what a great tool for stirring up creativity.

The best part about it was that since we were supposed to be paying attention to something else going on we were not allowed to communicate verbally with each other. It made for some great drawings.

Could be a great way to get a beta going...
