"I refuse to sacrifice who I am, my integrity, for today's trend. Instead, I think I'll shape tomorrow's."
I am a graduate student, working towards a degree that will help me connect producers and consumers in community food systems. I am an alumni of many different programs, but the most profound are: the Liberty Hyde Bailey Scholars Program, Michigan 4-H, and Michigan Youth in Government. My interests and values have been shaped by my experiences in these, as well as many other, activities throughout my life thus far. I am just excited to see what will come my way next.
In terms of my personal life, I truly enjoy the escape and self expression photography can provide. I always carry some kind of camera with me because you just never know when the perfect shot may present itself. I also can never get enough of a good book, and recently organized a women's book club in my community to broaden my reading experiences. I'm a farm girl at heart, but love the cultural diversity of a large metropolis. Traveling is definitely on my horizon. I think the role that food plays in our interpersonal actions is completely intriguing, and I hope to study it further in the future.
I consider myself a systems thinker, meaning that everything is connected and thus our actions (even the small ones) impact something or someone elsewhere. It could even mean that our actions are influencing the potential opportunity for us to act in the future. I think logic and efficiency are important, but also maintain a personal value of taking time to enjoy each day as the special gift it is.
