Perspective And Clarity
"Before speaking, ask yourself: Is it kind, is it necessary & is it true."
I have been an explorer of sorts all my life. For me, accepting the status quo never seemed like the best option. Somehow it seemed as if I was giving up on new possibilities. This served me well in managing change, projects and programs. Unfortunately, I started to think a change in direction was now my default and I wasn’t taking time to look at the 'why' I did what I did. I needed to cultivate a better perspective and gain clarity before making choices. From then on I felt I was on the right road.
Hi Morgan. I think you identified the key opportunity for a coach. It is after the patient's stay in the hospital - where the prognosis is life altering and/or life limiting and palliative and hospice care may not be needed yet.
EOL coaching can begin at a diagnosis and continue until the end. As for family, I think it is an opportunity but I find that a community support group or private grief counseling service works wonders.
Thanks Nancy! - I have come across so many opportunities with palliative care patients who were so lost on what to 'do' in this period of life, or how to interact with others or even how to relate to their own families. I would love to put some guiding principles around this - still working on the concept.
