Natalia commented on Take the sun with you: Trendy solar handbags

Hey all, thanks for all the comments. Really hope this idea passes the next step.

Gabrielle, thanks for your input about the community. We would like to choose a community were access to clean energies is difficult. Where is your friend based in Thailand?
Colombia is for sure a possibility, since I am Colombian. Do you know someone that can helps us?

Kristen, great idea! I will let you know if we need help.

Thank you Alper! What would be the easiest way to provide you with sketches? (this is from a non-designer point of view).

Thank you all for your comments!! It is so good to see that the idea is working.

Natalie, regarding your comments:

Existing handbags:
We can see that solar handbags are in the market, do you know the sales? Are they working? If not, what do you think it should be improved?
With the team, we were thinking to make a kit ("make it yourself"). With this in mind, we will reduce the production costs and expand the awareness. What do you think? Also, we thought associating with luxury labels in order to reach more people.

Portable Light:
We will for sure contact Portable Light. Do you know them?

Cost and selling price:
We will need first to decide on the community manufacturing the handbags. Depending on the manufacturing costs and PV cells we will be able to come up with a selling price.

Pilot community:
For the pilot, the IE community, is the IE Business School in Madrid, where I am currently doing an MBA. I have changed it in the summary. We wanted to test the pilot in a community where we can assess the impact.
Regarding the artisan community, we are thinking about a community using fossil fuels or having electricity scarcity.

Solar clothes:
In this case, we will need to evaluate the feasibility of carrying out a charger near your body, all within safety standards. With the bikini, I guess is difficult to go to the pool. On the other hand, the jacket looks cool! What would be the potential here? Jackets manufactured by local artisans?

Kristen, great idea! How can we include the local artisans in the upcycling?
