"Amongst derivations, optimizations, and analyses, if we forget empathy in the design process, we are in trouble."
Leaving a small town outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I came west looking for perspective, wisdom, and a golden tan. While Northern California provides less of the latter than I might like, I did discover the power of empathic, human-centered design as a new way of thinking about the world we live in, the places we inhabit, the things we use, and the people we interact with. At complex intersections of product design, architecture, and public health, I like to think about how design can lead to more meaningful connections between people, better accessibility to existing technologies, and greater peace of mind, happiness, and health.
