Hi Gregory Martinez , Nayla here from Ernesto's team. To answer your question about food provenance, we do have access to government-level information about the provenance of foods into the island. Regarding the transparency of the supply chain, our issues are similar to other countries-- in our case, with a heavy dependence on imports, we often see a greater disconnect between food production practices by individual brands and consumer choices in the island. Transparent food systems are really important when it comes to empowering consumers to make safer and more environmentally-conscious food choices. I would argue, hower, that what our food system really needs is to support the individuals who make up its segments--this includes producers, processors, distributors and consumers.
I am very familiar with the work of the BCC and I am curious about your views regarding the food system's biggest challenges.
Looking forward to learning more about your work, Nayla
