Betty has worked in my classroom for three years and she is absolutely wonderful with the children. They love her stories and her artistic abilities. The Monster story is a very well written story in my opinion and the children LOVE it. NO one has ever been afraid of the book or the characters. Actually they want to draw them and create their own "Monster" after reading and discussing the book. The diversity of the story is very simple and well written. Like Betty has stated, you have to talk to children when reading a book. We as educators don't just read the book and put it away, instead we discuss each picture and meaning behind it. I feel that this book is written in a way that can be incorporated in every city no matter the ethical or socioeconomically status of the children you are reading to.
