The home is the basis of all learning. Creativity needs to be encouraged since children are infants. Small children are naturally curious, parents need to encourage and grow their children's creativity.
Field trips contribute to the education experience, why not take the whole education system on a tour. Students will benefit from the experience; allowing them to think freely and outside the constraints of public schooling.
This a great idea! Kids will be engaged in collaborations. Perhaps, you could get someone to sponsor a challenge for kids. By creating a challenge that is targeted to the younger community you could get a sense of how engaging they could be. OpenIdeo could have a challenge that is targeted to the 5-18 group, in which classrooms all around the country/world could participate. The winning "team" will get the prize or even the innovation for their school. The idea could be something along the lines of What would make the ideal classroom? What do kids like? anything that could get a conversation started. Perhaps do research or someone on here knows more about demographics and specifically about possible kid challenges on OpenIdeo.
Discussion with a school district or having a community meeting, might help in seeing this become a reality. In such a meeting you could ask parents/teachers if such a project is possible within the current curriculum or what the limitations are for such a project to take place.
This is a great idea giving kids their freedom to create is important!
That's a great addition Caterina. A journey diary or an investigation journal would enrich the experience. It would easier for students to share their learning and even transfer to their next school year. So that the journal becomes a sort of transcript, students/parents/teachers will later be able to capture a student's way of learning.
