How best can we used the already established social medias to best of their ability to not only connect to other businesses but also for marketing , branding , feedback and everything else that a startup needs to do !
teach the young aspirants(I call them VOTE ANGEL ) about voting between the age of16- 18, would volunteer to go with a navigator ( a person with disability or language barrier or is ill and might need help at any point throughout the process ) .
a rating database for electoral officials to refer and voters to give feedback – would help us understand the constraints and strengths of different voting systems and help implement the effective ones in lesser time frame .
the analogy of prior appointments( doctors) where one can make a phone call to find out how much is the rush, book appointments and leave home accordingly, helps the staff at voting booth to stay informed and is convenient for the voter as well.
in order to cut down the steps@ voting places, swipe interface is one of the most convenient interface that most people are already accustomed too irrespective of their language or educational background and lets reduce paper consumption !
People with disability might find a disconnect between their requirements and those of others. They might feel that irrespective of whoever is elected their issues are never going to be addressed ? Learning from women reservation bill in India.
Facilitating Physical/ Activity/live demonstration in sign language ( just like airlines provide) prior to voting could help people summarize ( a lot of elderly and we too often tend to mix up or be confused ) or be clear on what and how.
"Voters who want to vote early for any election may do so in person at their parish Registrar of Voters office or at designated locations in the parish from 14 days to seven days prior to any scheduled election".
A unique and successful initiative for small towns in India. Mobile booths- right in front of your eyes when you needed to make that urgent call. Help differently- abled in moving freely from one place to another and earn a dignified living.
Be them experience them !
While working on a project that concerns senior citizens in India , I came across Particia Moore and her approach –I was very inspired and motivated by her daring design approach .
In order to make it inclusive - making the process multisensory .
Could we incorporate sound and pop up information for visually impaired/elderly /people with sight problems/reading problems etc . for all the information manuals ?
An attempt to make the process inclusive, National Anthem is something that we all are proud of. The same was never considered from the point of view of a differently-abled citizens until MUDRA group produced this one for BIG CINEMAS.
A unique platform that allows people drive with the help of navigation of a visually impaired person, organized as a competition rally. The rally has been a very successful event every year, creates a unique platform for people to collaborate.
India has been continuously struggling to make the election process, fair ,accessible and participatory. We are known for being filmy and melodramatic. Continuous series of T.V. commercials connected well and triggered an effective involvement.
As a child i was very fascinated by the news telecast for people with hearing impairment and dumb. A simple/effective solution-just like we had news for normal people , why not for people with hearing impariment ?
Circulate local newspapers –within neighborhoods ,with very positive and affirmative news with focus on very local updates .Strong visuals, so that people can recognize and connect with people and know what is the latest in their neighborhood.
Shrinking cities, with their large parcels of vacant and low cost lands can function as nodes for renewable energy production with a primary vision of supplying energy to neighboring cities and territories.
Legible visual identity -Inspired by Kite flying festival of Ahmedabad (Gujarat, India) - when all the families spent the day flying kites, play music and eat on their respective terraces and the night life of tourist cities like Udiapur in India.
Hey Paul, congrats ! To build on this - I feel in order to decide what should a waiting area ( lounge accomodate ) one really needs to know the tentative time a voter is likely to wait. So let us assume –the wait time would vary from 10 minutes (tolarable) to 30 minutes (in-tolarable) and we need to cater to both the situations. While going through your concept i recalled one of the inspiration from our challenge (http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/doing-something-useful-whilst-waiting-inline-apple-stores/ ) which looks at how apple stores have dealt with the wait. Another one about adding coffee- http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/just-add-coffee/
In addition we could look at waiting lounge at airports - a comfortable seating is good enough for people to relax and get talking !
There has been a repetitive mention of display screens, i was wondering if we would like people to go through a video showing safety tips ( ref inspiration by me - http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/voting-hostess-facilitate-physical-demonstration-of-the-process-just-like-air-hostess-/ and florin on demonstrations before a flight takes off http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/vote-safety-demonstration-/
I was wondering if we could have similar video displays (before voting. )
If a display screen is very expensive how about a pop–up book like brochure ( can’t help thinking about one of my inspirations-tell a story with pop -up books and musical cards - http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/tell-a-story-with-pop-up-books-and-musical-cards-.-/ ) brochure(cheapest and easiest to produce ) which talks about the safety tips or the procedure like in travel guide but inclusive , graphical and multisensory ! I feel if we could ensure a place to sit/ hangout –a lot more can be done while waiting without making a voter realize that its THEIR TURN NEXT !
