Hi Rebecca Firth , great question ! Our mobile application is connected to a cloud database, allowing that data to be shared more widely with our partners who may be international. We know that many of the regions we operate in may not have the best network, so we are working with hotspot and mobile operators on a solution. The device itself does not require connectivity to work but the data is uploaded automatically when it reaches connectivity.
The results shown on the phone will be a simple contaminated/not contaminated with GPS. On the backend, we will have much more detailed information about how contaminated the water is and geographical information such as the flow of the water.
This is such a great idea in so many ways! I love that it gives people their independence instead of waiting for public transit. It also put a smile on my face because a human on a bicycle is one of the most efficient methods of transportation (beating trains, planes, and cars)!
I think you guys are pursing a super interesting way to educate and promote community, kudos! It sounds like most of your resources are donation based. Will you be looking for partnerships to become a more sustainable project? Where are lessons held? Is that space donated as well?
