Mukami commented on Y-BOSS : Youth self-sustaining business opportunities

Quite a comprehensive approach to ensuring youth skills and talents can also become entrepreneurial ideas. It is common to find most young people especially in poor neighborhoods using their talents to entertain in functions including political campaigns but never turn them around into sustainable business ventures. This idea provides-: space for business incubation, an amplifying forum through radio, resources in form of loans and business training and online marketing platform and above all continuous assessments on progress for possible scale up and sustainability.

Dear Chioma,
Thank you for your follow up comments. We envision to do all the activities as they all are important for impact. However our most 3 priority areas will be:-
 • Create “barefoot journalists” to produce radio content in drama, educational messages, alerts, music, story-telling, interviews and discussion forums.
• Waste management “ trash is cash” enterprises for youth and women
• Production of an audio/visual documentary on slum community mitigation activities on climate change

Dear Chioma,

Thank you for the feedback. As for how we envision to use Amplify support, I wish to reply as follows:-

The main goal of our idea is cushion slum communities to cope with erratic rise and fall of climate change, by making climate change an addition to their felt basic needs. Poverty is a major hindrance to making this possible. However, our organization targets various community needs through our programs which aim at achieving sustainable social/economic impact. In order for slum communities to thrive amidst climate change, their basic needs must be addressed as a priority as an incentive and capacity to make them proactive in mitigating climate change by creating homegrown solutions based on accountability and consequences. We envision to implement the following if Amplify can support by linking us with potential development partners and launching this venture.
• Production of an audio/visual documentary on slum community mitigation activities on climate change.

•Create “barefoot journalists” to produce radio content in drama, educational messages, alerts, music, story-telling, interviews and discussion forums.

• Install and link a toll-free telephone line to radio for information updates through calls and short messaging.

• Waste management “ trash is cash” enterprises for youth and women.

• Create a disaster preparedness reserve fund through our Mashinani Social Enterprise (MSEP).

• Community Education on Climate change and creation of “climate watch advocates and educators”

• Leaders dialogue forums with radio content developers.

• Community syndicated radio programs broadcasted and shared with other media houses.

• Develop climate change slum communication strategy.

• Technical support and Networking.

Very Kind regards

Lucy Mukami Mathai.
