I totally agree with you, we need to find a way to engage children in these kind of programs. What helped my friends (and me) to acquire good eating habits was having home made food every day. We used to eat breakfast before leaving for school, usually eggs and natural juice or milk; for the break in the afternoon we used to have a sandwich, a fruit and water; lunch was at home, usually with the whole family. Our meals for lunch included soup, meat, rice or beans, vegetables and water flavored with natural fruits. Soda was only for parties or special events. For dinner we used to have bread and chocolate milk or cereal. Obviously, we could have some candy and chips from time to time, but not every time we wanted. On weekends, we were finally allowed to eat fast food :D I remember very well that my Mom's food was never boring. She learned to cook both traditional and modern meals, so she had a big repertory for us.
I checked out your post, this app looks very interesting. I'll share it with my friends and let you know their comments.
