I think there are other ways to evaluate the productions. If students work only to achieve a certain "grade" or "score", it might hinder creativity. I think ultimately, as long as students are able to learn the material and really grasp the meanings, teachers have done their jobs.
The concept behind this would be that there would be multiple groups and each group would be assigned a topic to research. Ultimately, each group would present what they learned and teach the rest of the class. This way, students are able to see how other teams came up with ideas while also learning the curriculum.
