Teacher. Blogger. Video producer. Writer. Editor. Curator. Researcher. Narrator. Anthropologist.
"Lifelong Learner. Producer. Perpetual NPC."
I'm a born and bred Texan living in the Greater Seattle area with a grouchy old lady cat. In my free time, I'm a science fiction/fantasy fan girl who flirts with the Hardcore Gamer line and enjoys a little cultural anthropology on the side.
About My Teaching
I started my teaching career in science and natural history museums, developing and presenting educational programming supporting the museums' mission and exhibits. For the last several years, I have taught pre-Algebra through Algebra 2 in both small informal classes and self-produced online videos. On the side, I like keeping up to date on current and upcoming education trends; blogging about autodidactism, apprenticeship, and what's becoming known as "twenty-first century skills"; and teaching myself various forms of media production. As a teacher and curriculum designer, I am drawn to pedagogies and curricula that rely on practical activities to instill a sense of creativity, curiosity, and agency in learners. I hope to eventually design experiences that do all that, while also teaching math and reading within their relevant science and social studies contexts.
About My Writing
Over the past couple of decades, I've engaged in nearly every single form of writing, but it turns out that my writing takes after me in that it likes being short. Currently, I maintain a writing blog and am working on developing a futuristic world that will allow me to explore anthropological and sociological issues I find interesting. When I'm not writing, I'm still engaged in writing-adjacent activities. I teach writing and create instructional aids. My teaching even extends to editing for others. I love to engage in research, and am an avid reader. I also narrate audiobooks and dabble in voice acting.
