"We owe our planet to the next generation"
A nutritionist by profession and environmentalist by heart: my hybrid nature has long driven me to seek the nexus of environmental conservation, food security, and nutrition. I dream of contributing, in whatever way I can, to the conservation and promotion of neglected underutilized crops and livestock to improve our countrymen's nutrition situation and resilience to climate change, especially among the poorest of the poor.
Glad to be on board! Thanks BIDANI Team! The COVID pandemic has all the more highlighted the importance of working at the Barangay or community level, the very core of your approach. The vision for a "living" database on food flow is one of the elements that could have been so useful now (and it will be once set up as we grow back stronger after the pandemic) considering limited mobility and increased focus on shortening the food path to reduce interpersonal contact. The pandemic has also floated the potency of technology and social media as a platform to create that "demand" for healthier food which will drive the local economy. Hopefully, it can also be leveraged to bring back native crops, the foundation of our culinary heritage, into the mainstream as they are among the keys to coping with extreme climate change and increased need for nutrients amidst the shrinking agricultural land area. IIRR team, with Dr. Julian Gonsalves, Emily Oro, Ma. Shiela Anunciado , Michelle Jeanne L. Calica , and Camille A. Valdemoro are excited to pitch in to this vision thru the finals! To a healthier more inclusive and sustainable food system in Laguna (and beyond)!
Hello Ms Thu Nguyen ! We've shared our vision to some farmers, our partner from the Department of Education and World Wildlife fund and included their feedback here. While we're waiting for them to set up their accounts in ideo so we can tag them as collaborator, we would also like to ask for your comments on our work :) thank you!
