KIM DYAN commented on Turning Garbage Into Trees

Hello Nelson. Thank you very much for considering me to be part of your initiative here in ideo. Let me share with you this article from The http://RSA.org about creative collaboration for public services that I think is in line with your vision for the collaborative process to implement the initiative.

I look forward to delving deeper into the project.

Hi Amy! I think this is great idea for a solution to water problem in urban communities especially in the developing world. Water is among the most important resources that everybody needs to sustain life. Our planet is facing a crisis in the use of this resource and I could not imagine the kind of future that we are facing if we do not act to together to solve this problem now. This will definitely make great difference in the lives of many women who take on the role of caring for the household.

We need solutions such as the Safi Water Works, just as much as we need a collaboration model to bring this solution into its most efficient application towards the highest possible impact it can give to the community. I believe, we were able to develop such model/ framework. We call it the WOW Sustainable Dynamics Model. please see: http://openideo.com/challenge/womens-safety/ideas/dynamic-well-being-and-holistic-participation-towards-safer-and-sustainable-urban-communities. We're currently testing the framework and readapting it to various stakeholders and settings.

We have in our sustainability model what we call social-holistic (SO-HO) entrepreneurship. We need to find the right people to implement the solution and at the same time have and maintain a social responsibility to the community (not only think about monetary benefits from the solutions). This requires looking into the forces and properties of sustainability in the community. Ultimately, I guess, we need to look at this solution as a way of investing on people's basic health and wellbeing. As they achieve a level of dynamic wellness, they can be able to holistically participate into the life of the community. Active involvement of all the sectors of the community therefore becomes and imperative.

Thank you Khin! Yes, it is not mere return to traditional values that we would like to focus on but (in) finding balance between our connection to traditional wisdom and our modern culture-- towards what we consider ancient-future integration or cultural fusion, which is an evolutionary process in itself. Thank you for raising this one. And while the framework is positioned around the theme of sustainability, we are trying to apply it in several other areas like in this challenge- making contribution towards the creation of a more sustainable relationship between men and women. For more information about the framework, please refer to the following links:
