Hi Rob and Joanna, I'm happy my story helped motivate you. That was exactly why I chose to share my story. When I was discussing the challenge with some friends of mine, I was shocked to hear that they all supported high college expenses. Their reasoning was: 1.) The higher the cost the higher the value of the degree. 2.) They argued that students would "figure it out for themselves" and this would build character.
My story was meant to challenge the second reason. I would argue that for some students, particularly low-income students, adding to their already significant financial stress only serves to reinforce an "every man for himself" attitude that has been instilled in them since childhood. Affordable education would go a long way in minimizing this mentality.
Hi Gavin! Thank you for reading my story. As you can imagine, this challenge hits really close to home, so I tried my best to convey the importance of solving this issue. I'll definitely check out Caitlin's and Hyung's stories.
