Hi Mirette-- No it has not been tested in refugee communities, but it is certainly has been a undeserved communities in the US that are in states of chaos like Freguson, MO. I think it is a great way to start the community process and identify social innovators quickly. Hackathon's have been in the technology sector for years, but the Hack concept can be non-tech problems and solutions.
Sean-- Thank you so much for the information. I had read some reports stated high rates of smartphone availability among refugees, but was unsure of the camps, and now it makes sense. Do the refugees living in camps have feature phones? We have been working on delivery of educational content through SMS and MMS and are curious if this would be a good way to deliver to refugees living in camps. Any information form the camps about what forms of multimedia (TV, radio, print) refugees have access to would be really helpful.
