What if recycling bins had this feature instead of the vending machines? For instance, if you place your bottle/can in a recycling bin (as opposed to the trash can), it will pop out a surprise for you? Or perhaps it could print some sort of receipt or ticket that could later be cashed for monetary rewards, free mechandise, etc. Sort of like when you go to an arcade and collect tokens or tickets that you later use to redeem a prize. Then you wouldn't have to worry so much about those who leave the vicinity of the vending machine and trying to get them to come back to it. Also, these sorts of recycling bin surprise dispensers could probably be built to work at home as well. I like the idea that each time you put your recycling into the bin, you would be rewarded with something different.
