Columbia Journalism School
"I want a party with roomfuls of laughter... (Guess that song & movie!)"
Currently a Master of Science candidate at Columbia Journalism School, with a focus on digital media and data journalism.
A recent graduate of Dartmouth College, I majored in Psychology--social psychology and neuroscience with emphases on experimental design.
During my sophomore year I studied abroad in Fes, Morocco, and it was truly life-changing. I try to be brief about it, because once I start talking about it, I could yap for days!
At 22, I've worked in a variety of industries, including fashion, health care, social services, education, game design, and I've pioneered my own research projects.
At the start of my junior year, I began work as a Leadership Intern at the dean's office, creating workshops and experiences for other students exploring issues of identity formation and social change. At around the same time, I started working at a game design lab as a research assistant , where I became passionate about play and immersive experiences. By understanding how things operate in systems, I've cultivated a bit of an entrepreneurial mindset about the things we use and the stuff we do, how we spend our time, and the things we're missing.
I've always loved to write, but between two jobs and full-time school, I wasn't managing to do enough of it. Journalism school is proving to be a fulfilling move for me, as I'm able to hone my writing abilities, and come to understand how the work we do as journalists fits in to our ever-evolving media landscape.
I love to read when I have the time--some recent faves include Social Physics, Assholes: A Theory, and The Collapse of Western Civilization. All-time faves include Things Fall Apart, The Giver, 1984, The Great Gatsby, and the Harry Potter Series. I'm saving James Baldwin for when I make it to Paris.
Other random facts:
1. I'm always on social media--mostly Twitter & Instagram, but ALWAYS connected.
2. I love magic. Show me a card trick, and I'll be your best friend. Movies about magic and illusions are also amazing--The Prestige is an all-time favorite.
3. I'm very into space. My square bedroom in Harlem has four items: a chair, a desk, a bed, and a coffee table. I'm constantly rearranging.
4. I'm also into outer space. I think it says a lot about us humans in regard to how things are going down there on our home planet Earth.
