Dr. Kelly Gehlhoff Thank you! Are you burying the FarmBox Farms converted shipping containers to maintain a warmer grow environment? What kind of temperatures can you maintain inside the containers during the winter months?
Simone Silotti Thank you! Yes, we share your desire to radically shorten the time and distance from farm to table and to provide fresher and more nutritious food to urban consumers. I'd be interested to test your app when it's available. All my very best!
Hi Vicent ST I saw that you've submitted a "food system" vision, so I know that you're asking the question for the benefit of others. By the way, I really like your vision of reintroducing genetically-diverse indigenous crops that are better for us and for the soil. The food system encompasses every aspect of growing food (access to land, crop and seed selection, soil preparation, planting, watering, fertilizing), harvesting food, transporting food (for processed foods, this includes multiple transport steps), processing and/or preparing foods, eating food (and the related benefits or harm, the cultural and social implications), and food waste streams (in the field, after processing/preparation, and post consumption). Our food systems intersect and interact with other systems like our health system and often have implications related to society, ethics, and equity -- environmental justice (i.e. farm workers and their children exposed to poisonous pesticides), social justice (i.e. inequitable access to land. Inequitable access to quality food having life-long impact on health and early-life impact on educational success), and growing wealth and power gaps. I'm so grateful that you and I and so many other change-makers have the opportunity to publish our food visions here, because creating a positive future of food is foundational to creating a fabulous future for us all and for all future generations.
