Ashley Coates composting is planned. Community toilets will produce enough comport to help with organic fertilizers for the community for 1 crop season. Separation of solid compost from raw sewage is a crucial step and that is what we are focused on.
MacKenzie - I am glad you asked. We have been working in these drought struck districts of India for over 5 years now. Water conservation has been a focus of our work and will continue to be. We are looking at eco-friendly toilets that use less water per flush and also separate sludge and urine (which is useful towards making of compost organic fertilizer in agricultural heartlands). Access to water is an issue in Marathwada region of Maharashtra. We are working with local NGOs in that region with roof based rain harvesting system which will be useful towards a sustainable solution.
