Recipient of 2013 “Mary Fran Myers (MFM) Scholarship” by Natural Hazard Center, University of Colorado, USA for my contributions to local, national and regional disaster risk reduction efforts and global disaster risk reduction discourses. I'm also serving as a chair of the selection committee for global gender and disasters award, and a steering committee member of gender and disasters network for the last few years. I’m equally active in global gender, disaster and climate change policy discourses. In June 2013, I got trained as a trainer in Water Diplomacy at Harvard Law School in collaboration with Tufts University and Massachusetts University of Technology (MIT),USA.
Graduated in sociology and psychology and completed two post graduate degrees in media and communication. I thereafter studied and earned the graduate and diploma certificates in management, environment education, humanitarian assistance, humanitarian leadership and management, from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmadabad, and Center for Environment Education (CEE), Delhi in India, and the University of Geneva and Fordham University of United States, respectively. Of late, to advance my learning in the functional and thematic areas of my professional occupation from world’s leading academic institutions.
Employed with International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) at Kathmandu, Nepal as a regional team leader for disaster risk reduction and community resilience, covering eight countries (i.e-India, China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Nepal) in the “Hindu Kush Himalayan Region”. The responsibilities of this position include, development of regional framework for resilience to climate change and disaster risk reduction (DRR), development and implementation of programs on climate change adaptation, eco-system adaptation, disaster risk reduction and community resilience, facilitation of regional cooperation between respective government ministries in the region, advanced research, promotion of latest technologies and institutional and professional capacity development in the region with the overall aim of contributing to sustainable mountain development.
Before moving to ICIMOD, worked for with Oxfam America for five years as India Humanitarian Representative and South Asia Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist, responsible for setting up offices in India and Sri Lanka, thereafter coordinating with other Oxfam affiliates, creating India country team of Oxfam affiliates, managing partnerships, liaison with national disaster management authorities in India and Sri Lanka. During this working phase, I got opportunity to create new institutions, enhance capacities, commission over 20 research studies on a wide range of subjects related to disasters, climate change, gender, public health, rural livelihoods, and results of these research studies have been shared national policy makers and regional and global think tanks.
