Building on the ideas so far using SMS or touch-screen applications, why not also consider an IVR equivalent to educate/train potential midwives within a community on how to diagnose and monitor signs and symptoms?

Karen T. commented on Social Medical Network

Hello, I saw your idea after submitting one about creating an online network to connect cancer patients with non-cancer patients for support. I think there is definitely something to be said about connecting people to people and people to information in an easily accessible, interactive (maybe even social) way!

Doht! I just saw your concept and I submitted a similar one about expanding the call for bone marrow to something beyond.. bone marrow. Totally agreed that it's not an appealing term itself and could use a new reputation. Gonna go update mine to "build on this" with yours. Thanks!

I like your idea of addressing the fears/misunderstanding about donation at a young age. It'd also be helpful to add an activity for the kids to "pledge" to register when they are old enough as a reminder. Perhaps they could write themselves a letter (or email) that gets sent on their birthday as a reminder to get registered when they turn 18 (or whatever the age requirement is for that country). Or -- since kids writing letters is just so cute -- have them make birthday card reminders to the teenagers turning 18 in their neighborhood each year :)
