I am passionate about:
understanding how refugees learn a language and then translating that into a classroom.
A little known fact about me is:
I am a classically trained violist and vocalist.

"Everyone can; it's up to us to find the right keys."
I am currently preparing to start research on my dissertation on how refugees with low literacy learn English upon arrival to the U.S. I teach a refugee job skills class and a university freshmen-level composition course. I hope to devote my career to studying how refugees learn English and how factors such as PTSD, low literacy, and culture manifest themselves in the classroom, on the job, and in language acquisition. In my free time, I enjoy singing in several choirs, playing viola in a community orchestra, and reading Russian literature.
