Thanks for the commentary, you bring up some excellent points about PLA biodegradation. I agree with you I think PLA has a long way to go as far as being able to biodegrade under real conditions within one year. I came across research from Ramani Narayan about PLA biodegradability, where he was clarifying biodegradability. Perhaps you came across this too?
I agree with you there may be some confusion to residents and municipalities on how to handle PLA. We also submitted a few more ideas about information platforms and pre-sorting that would take some responsibility away from residents. This material I believe should be combined with a robust information platform so inter-sector processes can be developed to handle plastics, PLA preferably.
I think there is an opportunity for some collaboration around plastics. We have a few engineers in our co-op who are experienced with 3D printers who could offer advice. I will search for you on Linkedin. Hope to talk more. Your ideas are really creative!
