State Farm Isurance Companies
I graduated with a degree in mathematics and after a couple of years of service in the public arena, as an educator, I transitioned to the corporate world. There was a short period of time prior to joining State Farm that I worked as a staff person in a Nationwide Insurance agent's office.
While at State Farm I have had an eclectic mix of experiences. I began in the IT arena as an application developer. I then followed an opportunity to apply my education background to the field of multimedia training. Following that, my work focus turned toward human performance improvement and human/computer interaction. My current role is consultant. I split my time among emerging media and business strategy. From 2001-2003 I was involved in a start up venture called accentfree which ended after failing to secure a second round of venture backed funding.
Recently, I have joined the advisory board of a group that is trying to create an innovation hub that will function as equal parts makerspace, cooperative, and inspiration incubator.
A single sentence that represents the essence of me is: "An intentional polymath that nudges people to discover and embrace their true selves."
I think this is a wonderful challenge. I am eager to dive in and see what I can contribute. I was very interested in a start-up I discovered on twitter back in 2008/2009. It was founded by Jen McCabe and issued challenges for bursts of microfitness. With the growing penetration of social tools within organizations I believe the platform is there to achieve a critical mass for engaging people in healthier habits.
I think we are on the verge of entering into an era of rapid expansion of collaborative consumption as documented in this TED talk http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/rachel_botsman_the_case_for_collaborative_consumption.html and on this web site http://collaborativeconsumption.com/ . I appreciate how Openideo is tapping into this meme by providing a platform for people to share not just physical objects but their cognitive abilities to positively impact community.
