What a wonderful idea! Part of the work we do at Lifetrack supports people who have mental and physical disabilities. Your ideas and vision are very similar to ours and I hope to hear from you in the near future.

If you can, take some time to explore our website. You might find helpful resources: www.lifetrack-mn.org

Your dedication and commitment to this issue and to the people suffering from Sickle Cell Disease is admirable.

I have a few questions:

Would the doctors and therapists providing counseling be volunteers or would they receive a salary?

Cultural beliefs are very ingrained into the general population’s way of life. Does your initiative plan on doing outreach to the general community in order to educate them on the myths and stigmas of Sickle Cell Disease?

Your idea is wonderful. I am not fully aware of the accurate statistics, but my educated guess would be that Infant mortality rates in Africa are quite high--especially in rural and underdeveloped areas. Your effort to involve men is also wonderful.

Many expectant mothers lack the financial resources to even travel to "local" clinics or hospitals (many of which are in capital cities only and if the expectant mother lives in rural area, the journey could be possibly hundreds of miles away and quite costly) and some are discouraged from attending due to negative views of health professionals and the government (especially if the hospital or clinic is associated any type of governmental institution/funding). How do you plan on convincing women to trust health professionals and health facilities?
