"Creating disruptive business models built on the foundation of innovative design."
As a mechanical engineer, I was fortunate to start out my career in environments that required me to be creative, to design and tinker, and to fail and succeed. I honed my engineering skills first as a Product Design Engineer at the R&D Tech Center of Schlumberger Ltd., where I invented patented mechanical systems. Then as a Vehicle Dynamics Engineer at Ford Racing I built industry leading vehicle simulation systems to drive Ford Racing to dozens of race wins, two national championships, and the 2012 Daytona 500 championship. But as I progressed as an engineer, I soon realized my true passion was in the creation of real value in the marketplace and building disruptive business models on the foundation of innovative design. I decided to pivot my career and gain an MBA that would develop the skills I needed.
After my first year of MBA I interned at Peterson Partners, a leading West coast Private Equity and Venture Capital firm, founded by Joel Peterson, Professor of Entrepreneurship at Stanford. I performed extensive due diligence on investments in both early-stage tech startups, as well as lower-middle market buyouts in a variety of industries. I loved analyzing the business case for an investment, digging into the economics and market opportunities, and having to put capital at risk based on my conclusions.
After Peterson, I interned with Accenture Strategy in San Francisco, as a business strategy consultant in their Innovation & Product Development group. At I&PD, I worked with Fortune 500 companies to refresh their Product Lifecycle Management strategies across all global business units. I deeply enjoyed refreshing stagnant operating models and taking new corporate strategy initiatives to drive disruption in the marketplace.
My career has now taken me from Engineering to Venture Capital, and now Strategy Consulting. I can undoubtedly say my dream is to build business models with sustainable competitive advantage built on innovative design.
