Lwala Community Alliance
"Living in rural western Keyna with my wife, working on technology and watching futbol"
I work for Lwala Community Alliance, a small Kenya-based NGO that does rural health and development work in Lwala, Kenya. I'm here in Kenya to help our organization enhance information management, analysis, and reporting to improve outcomes for our hospital and outreach programs. I also help manage and implement technology-related partnerships. My background is in technology solutions with an emphasis on geographic information systems (GIS). I am working on finishing an M.S. in GIS from the University of Maryland, and hold an M.S. in engineering management from George Washington University and a B.A. in psychology from Auburn University.
Ash, your question about sharing data beyond CHWs is a great one. This is something we've discussed as a team and alluded to in some comment responses below. We're required to share much of the data we collect with the county ministry of health office and so are often exchanging information and ideas with them about how to combat diseases that affect children. We think mapping our data could really help advance the understanding of child health for all of our county, so would plan to make any information, analysis, and maps available to them. We'd also like to share our findings to the whole Lwala staff and broader community as much as possible - we have a few avenues for this, like weekly staff trainings, brown bag lunches, local board meetings, and quarterly community outreach events. Posting hardcopy maps in our hospital would be a great way to communicate especially poignant links between environmental factors and health in the community.
