Even if technical feasibility proves to make this not a viable option for energy generation, using it as a tool to both motivate physical activity and reduce energy consumption could still make this a useful concept. If a wearable device could collect some energy, and also accurately record activity levels, then it could translate physical activity into energy consumption. If a readout could say that by riding your bike for ___ miles today you generated enough energy to charge your phone for ___ minutes, energy users could truly understand the impact of their consumption.

This would be great to implement in schools. It would help to educate students, plus they are "working out" during PE already. The goal could be to have schools become energy neutral by harnessing all of that precious little kid energy.
