I had some sort of same idea of an Online/E-Voting system and if we use Braille Keyboards at polling booths with the same system by which blinds can also figure out the keys and can vote themselves, it will be a great help to blind people. Here is the link to the detailed information:
Yes you are right!..the same thing came to my mind first when I had thought about an Online/E-Voting System:) But the best live example of a highly secured large scale online system is Internet banking which we use very frequently and there is not a problem on large scale. The same tighter level of security can be use for online voting system.
Also, it's already being used in many place around the world like Estonia became the first country in the world to hold an election via internet. So, I think it can be implemented as highly secured web system which can be accessed by everyone.
