Really interesting question. Another great example: the beautiful parks in Boston's North End that replaced the central artery elevated highway with green space and continues to influence the reduction in crime year over year.

Fascinating study. The article's premise, that "a small number of criminals commit most of the crimes, and the crimes they commit are spread unevenly over the population: some unfortunate individuals seem to be picked out repeatedly by those intent on violent assault," would indicate that any solution would need to include a clear understanding of the profiles most often targeted, and whether those profiles remain consistent across different geographies and communities.
