This is a collection of interesting design solutions (analog & digital) to prevent ATM crime. Obviously not directly related to the brief, but it may provide ideas that could help in figuring out how to make low-income communities more safer for wome

Thanks for the link :) We did study the Punjab "Saanjh" model and Kerala's community policing systems. Its a little difficult to measure impact already, when it comes to these initiatives which also is a reason for lack of motivation for the police.

Hi Audree.

Thanks for sharing this piece. Having done some research into the policing system in India, we found out that a similar scheme was rolled out in Kerala, with better results. The Punjab model is still in a theoretical state with a few resource centers which are functional but Kerala has a very well implemented community policing system.

Thanks Jamie!

That's an interesting observation—we somehow didn't think of bringing the two into one room and having a discussion, but there were several police officials and constables, as well as citizens who were involved through out the design process—for constant validation.

Thing about technology is that the police is already thinking of implementing a country wide network and there are attempts made to digitize the existing and new records, but there is a definite lack of resources and finances. Think business models here.

Community ownership is definitely required, but so is ownership from the police and law enforcement agencies. We experienced a lot of reluctance to the proposal. Which is why the next step for this project would probably be to design a system from the point of view of the policemen.

Well, anyway! Good luck!
