Koldun Victor Great question. The Lamina does not consist of a single leaf, rather a laminated material consisting of two sheets of banana leaves which sandwich bits of banana stem (serving as insulation for hot and cold beverages). When this sheet is made volumetric to be filled with liquids, the two leaves create a dual paned pouch, where the outside banana leaf shell does not come into direct contact with the liquid the pouch is filled with, boiling or otherwise. This dual paned method creates added safeguards to extend the functional lifetime of the Lamina.

Thanks for looking out, Lauren Ito ! We were putting on the final touches, and are so thrilled to be live. This design process, from materials research to collecting user feedback, has been a rewarding one so far. Thanks again to the OpenIDEO team, McDonalds, and Starbucks, for giving our alternative cup solutions a platform to intermix and mature.
