"An engineer and artist with a passion for making"
My name is Adrian Yao, and I am currently a senior pursuing a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering at Rice University in Houston, Texas.
I grew up in very supportive family, and that has definitely fueled my desire to learn, willingness to fail, but also an ambition to make a unique difference in the world.
Growing up, our family didn't have a television, so I spent most of my time in front of a wall of assorted Lego pieces where I developed my passion for making things with my hands. I also collected a lot of junk to take apart just to figure out the mechanisms behind devices--and this curiosity to figure out how things work has stuck with me until today. I am in constant pursuit of new learning, and many of my personal projects are sparked by this curiosity (I convince myself that the money spent is always justified by it being educational). I decided to study Materials Science & Engineering because I believed it could take me anywhere; it seemed to be the common denominator of all types of engineering. But I have a true passion in mechatronics and I have taught myself mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
With an architect as a father and a designer as a mother, I also grew up with a strong aesthetic background. Initially learning my love for art through sketches, I am now confident in my artistic abilities and work. With engineering as my major focus, I love occasionally having a creative outlet as well and thoroughly enjoy the art making process.
I wish to make a unique difference in this world, and I would like to empower others to be able to make a difference as well.
