As a pediatrician who has spent a collective of several months in Lwala, and having seen the capability and effectiveness of the community health workers there, I believe the map concept would absolutely enhance their ability to improve health outcomes in the area. We know that visual representations of health trends and health outcomes not only make public health issues more understandable, they motivate their participants. Especially if the visuals are dynamic and evolving. In terms of direct pediatric health benefit, community outreach (and documentation) is a must. Many families (in both Lwala and the US) do not seek health care until their children are very ill. Reaching out to those families BEFORE their kids present with dehydration, malnutrition, malaria, etc. and having a way not only to track their problems but progress, is a cornerstone of effective preventative medicine. Way to go, LCA! Please let me know if I can be of any assistance!
