Successful Interventions in youth internationally have mostly been comprehensive programmes. These programmes will include some combination of job and life skill development, employment services, apprenticeships and entrepreneurial support.

Each country/region will have its own needs and context, we need to be cognizant of this when sharing success stories and scaling existing concepts into new areas.

I can imagine some other countries and regions that have different youth/employmen

This is secondary evidence that shows the different probabilities of remaining in unemployment in South Africa. It paints a scary picture, for youth aged 18-24 it is about 6 times more likely that you remain unemployed compared to moving into employm

Thanks Wekesa, Leigh and Alex, and congratulations to you too! :) Really love the direction you've taken. At some point, when my life is a little more normal, I will take a full read through of your doc and see where I can't add some value.

Wekeza, what did you think of the ashoka hangout?

Hi Michael,

Our goal is SME's. I'm keen to have a more in depth chat offline, because I tend to agree with your points.

1 - I think exposing entrepreneurs to "blue ocean" business models and giving them an opportunity focus

2 - I agree with you that education level is important. I'm also keen to explore other metrics to predict entrepreneurial success. Check out http://awethuproject.co.za/

3 - Choice, or opportunity focus will be key. I don't think necessity and choice are mutually exclusive though.

Looking forward to that email.
