Illiriana, I got a note so I decided to venture on to the site again. I'm not sure how to update our category but I guess I had tried to check off Surprise Us categories as I didn't think it fit in any of the other categories. As for transportation and child care? Using my current City of Seattle as an example, transportation is very expensive for low income families (bus ride/train ride $2.75 each way/$5.50 both ways) and while there are some programs to get reduce transportation cost, it is still difficult to get children to and from child care for various reasons--location of care in relation to transit, availability of reliable transportation, ability to transport multiple children on public transit. The simplest model is to provide transportation but it is not cost effective for programs like mine which are small and don't have that many children that require transit but we would serve more children if we had transit--a bit of a catch 22. There is much more to be written but also specifically to some of our homeless families, transportation is critical to ensuring continuity of care in many instances.
