How are you? Thank you so much for your message and reaching out for The Bahamas. I will definitely be running in the Caribbean and your offer to spread the word is awesome - I greatly appreciate it. I've requested to join the group.
Footsteps To Inspire has a longterm vision: the goal is to become an Annual Global Run, where communities around the world can come together on 18 July (or the weekend after) and run to peacefully end sexual violence. 2018 marks the start of the first informal annual run on Sunday 22 July. Everyone is welcome to join in wherever they are on this day to run (5 to 16kms). There will be a hashtag and option to post photos. I'm posting the event link this weekend on Facebook: www.facebook.com/footstepstoinspire/
Hello, thank you so much for your message and feedback.
Your suggestion is a good idea and maybe for consideration when the actual run is completed. There are also many platforms already available online for survivors to share their stories and experiences.
I have been self-funding the journey so far. I didn’t want money to be the reason for not doing this, so I took the risk and sold everything I have in the world to raise up enough to get started. I’ve recently began a crowdfunding campaign and looking for financial sponsors. However, it is still just me supporting all aspects of the initiative (which is the job of about 4 people) and so there is only so much I can do right now. I’m okay with that and the beauty is seeing how much I have already achieved with so little. I deeply believe in the cause and through hope to make the world a safer, more peaceful place.
When people join me for the run, there is no pressure or obligation for them to talk or share. It is open to everyone and completely relaxed and peaceful. It's not just survivors that benefit from the run, it is also people who want to understand more about sexual violence so they can help make change.
