When a women walks on a street in Manhattan, NY in the middle of the night, does she feel safe? If so what is the strength or courage she has than a women walking in any other area where it is considered unsafe.
Great! I am very excited this is moving ahead! Depending on the exact number of mentees you are willing to govern , we will try to arrange for the same number or mentors. We can continue this discussion over email. I will mail you on the above posted I'd of the basic details I need of the mentees. Will look forward for your response! Thanks.
Technology barrier was something we brainstormed on and like Anne mentioned, we thought of a process where we can do the entire mentorship through letters. If you or anyone you suggest can play the role of Governor, who will help facilitate the letters written by the mentors be distributed and translated to the Mentees. To explain the process better see the steps below for your understanding on how we can prototype this!
Step1: You (volunteer/governor) send us the list of 3-5 Mentees with their brief background like name, age, location, interests etc through email (adoptawomen portal) Step2: We (core team)will assign one Mentor to that Mentee based on a criteria. Step3: We (adoptawomen portal) will enclose the letters and post it to you(volunteer/governor) Step4: Volunteer/Governor can distribute and translate that letter to mentees Step5: Volunteer/Governor can record the response from mentees and provide translation if necessary and send it to us through email(adoptawomen portal)
We can amend any of the steps above to test the prototype and suite this particular scenario. I suggest 3-5 mentees only as this is for testing purpose, later we can understand the scope of this prototype.
Let me know what you think of this! Excited to know your feedback!
Thank you Anne for letting us know about this post. Indeed a great opportunity for us to collaborate.
Excellent idea! Me and my team from NYU are working on the project AdoptAWomen (http://openideo.com/challenge/womens-safety/ideas/adoptawomen-com). It would be a great opportunity for me to test our concept as a prototype to mentor women from Myanmar. We can follow your suggested action plan and see how it works! I will send you a quick intro mail on the email ID mentioned in your above post.
