To get in the tons of electronic waste just sitting in peoples houses or getting thrown away, adding fun is a good way to get people involved. And there is a lot of ways to do it!

I did not know that MIT had curriculum material online, thank you!

Yes, great idea, it could definitively start of as an online community, and it would be a great, all year thing that students could do. In addition to seminars and events.

Karen commented on Professionals as sometime teachers/advisors

This is a nice and simple idea, that I know works for me. I'm a student, and at my school, all my teachers work in companies. We can ask them anything we want, and hear all about their current projects.
Every monday we also have "Design in connection" where artist, designers, architects, even older students come and talk about their work. The school is really good at getting people from all over the world, and giving us insight in work and projects.

So your idea is a good way of getting information and inspiration out to students!
