Hi there, I am based in Derventa, more or less bordering the Krajina region. Of course, here we have the same issues and problems, especially people leaving the country due to a lack of belief in a “normal” future how you have formulated it. In my neighborhood, In Derventa it´s not even difficult to find a job due to many foreign investors but the salaries are low, and people have lost faith in the elites.

From my point of view, your initiative is very useful and definitely needed in order to support local youth in envisioning a future in their home communities, creating a learning space for implementing new ideas, foster teamwork and social cohesion etc. I personally believe that the region offers a lot of chances and possibilities for developing and experimenting around with business ideas. What young people need is guidance and positive role models. In this sense, your concept of having mentors to accompany the formed groups is very useful. I think it is also very important to get the groups in touch with local entrepreneurs and learn directly from them (e.g. you might try out Prirodno Bilje Banja Luka, A big distributor of medical plants with a great director). A huge challenge for small businesses is usually to get access to serious markets. Any support in this sense, registration of business, licensing products, getting product certificates, overcome export regulations etc. is very important. Unfortunately, many people give up when the first serious obstacle occur. I guess it will be crucial to help grantees to overcome the first obstacles and learn how to manage to do it alone in the future. Furthermore, I think it is great to connect business related training with conflict sensitivity.
Good luck!
