"Make and help Billions"
I love innovation and trying to find solutions that scale. I have had the good fortune to play a role in scaling three businesses in financial services. I am a founder of IIC "International Innovation Corps" which seeks to provide world class young talent to government leaders who want to work on a BHAG with rapid innovation. As you can see from my motto I see no conflict in doing good and making money.
Shane, thanks for pointing out Andre's idea in Somalia. If the regulatory environment is unclear or hostile in Somalia it maybe very difficult to make progress. In India a lot of the building blocks are in place. The old adage "Follow the money" can be replaced by "Follow the environment". Is the environment reasonably fertile in Somalia. The pain of carrying cash is there but without an enabling environment and deep pockets there may be no easy solution to the pain.
There is a program Junior Achievement https://www.juniorachievement.org/web/ja-usa/programs-info that I was a volunteer for and I used their package to teach at New York City inner schools. I worked for Citibank at that time and JA was one of the ways for Citibank employees to help communities. Programs such as this could be scaled where anyone could be a mentor with a small amount of coaching.
For those who cannot pay I think it must be run based on need . These could be the old, mentally or physically challenged and so on. Could also include able people who are just deadbeats but for all these the cost must be kept low and the services must be very basic so that deadbeats do not grow in number. If you can pay but need time loans should be given at low interest rates. I will wait till the idea phase and post a bit more on this idea in detail.
