This is an incredible program. I have had the privilege of seeing these young women work and learn cooperatively for the better part of a decade. Every year, WALC gets better. The young women (directors, peer leaders, participants) actively engage with the ideas presented in the program and fully embrace that knowledge and return to their home communities with newfound awareness of their enhanced roles and responsibilities. The education that they receive in the 25 days is a two-way street (they both learn and share) and become, over time, empowered young women who know that they can be vanguards for positive change, not only in their own lives, but their families and communities. As a Professor of Geography who has studied dozens of development projects, this one is the real deal and truly results in positive change.
