In 1997, a group of Zimbabwean women (known as the Soroptimists) established Childline Zimbabwe’s, child-friendly response service for children accessible any time of the day or week, to receive protection and emergency care. Childline Zimbabwe now has two call centres Harare and Bulawayo and answers about 600 000 calls annually and responds to child abuse, violence and exploitation through 26 drop in centres across the country.
thank you for the response. A recent study done by TechZim has shown that Zimbabwe has wide usage of cellphone (up to 84%) this means that even in the rural areas there is connectivity and cell phones are common. While we are hoping that most households will have phones that children can access, we are going to place phones in schools in the hardest to reach communities/schools (mobile helplines) to allow for access to the service.
