Sadly we could not get funding to go forward with the project. Since the time we tried to start evacuation of people on the West side of Donetsk in the Kievsky district, a number have been killed in artillery strikes waiting for help. FBKO was unable to secure $330 per client and made an executive decision to focus instead on distributing food, clothing and medicines with the limited funds they had. Last night a 75 year old man was killed in the areas we were working as a tank round landed in his kitchen. The war in Donbass remains an unknown war in the West. This lack of awareness leads to a lack of support, unfortunately leading to deaths. I will post a few video reports from this neighborhood we were working. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T9a-gJFDWQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghdRA5AzKbc
My job is not fun. Donetsk is a city of 800,000 that has been bombed, attacked and shelled for 3 years. The city has over 5000 people in the Kiev district of Donetsk it would like to evacuate to interior safe areas out of the death zone. If we were to have access to what is truly needed with an evacuation of at least 20,000 persons and 10,000 at risk kids we are pushing at $10 million USD in emergency funding. We would need expanded support of 100 local and 10 western humanitarian workers. Some of this could be volunteers, but being safe we need $10,000 a month on overhead. After two months we hope the situation stabalizes and a real peace is established. However, we are trying to do what we can now to get people to safety as shelling and fighting does take place daily. We hope the UN and other NGOs step in, but there is no sign of this happening currently. After two months we hope clients can return to their homes. We plan on looking at a repair and rebuilding campaign also, more twoards summer as over 8000 homes in the metro area have been destroyed thus far. I should mention we will continue to fund raise and sustain our clients, we do not intend to abandon people who depend on us for survival.
